Do you know God loves you? St. Ignatius of Loyola recommended that everyone spend at least two years - sometimes three - contemplating scriptures on God’s love for us. First We Were Loved includes scriptures for every day of the year along with instructions for prayer and inspirational quotes.

A part of growing in the Christian spiritual life is learning to discern when God is speaking to us, and when the enemy comes and invites us to places of mistrust and doubt, causing us to assign to God qualities that are not true of Him. St. Ignatius of Loyola called these movements of spirits (the Holy Spirit and the evil spirit) “consolation” and “desolation.”
With Scriptures to pray with each day, this resource takes you on a year-long journey of discovering and leaning into God’s voice. You will become more aware of your thoughts and feelings throughout the day and where they are leading you—toward God or away from Him. This book invites you to be awake and aware of what is happening in your heart as you journey with Jesus in this life. God is longing for you to know that He is your dearest friend and longs to give Himself to you.

St. Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556) was a Spanish priest, theologian, and founder of the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits. Ignatius believed that God can speak to people through their imagination, and that imaginative contemplation is helpful for interior transformation. He was a key figure in the development of imaginative contemplative prayer, also known as Ignatian contemplation
Imaginative contemplation is about getting to know Jesus. It is a method of prayer in which you imagine yourself as present in a Gospel scene, stepping into the story and encountering Jesus there. This way of praying will help you to see more clearly, love more dearly, and follow more nearly the person of Jesus Christ.
This book is a series of exercises using this method of prayer.
